Reflection

The projects in Architectural Design I helped me understand key architectural design elements and principles as well as develop and refine my overall creative process from the conception of an idea to its final execution.

It also provided my hands-on experience making a 1:1 structure, grounding my knowledge in tangible possibilities of what can be achieved with design.

The tutorials and lecturers were very useful in aiding and directing my designs to be more cohesive to my theme and helped me understand how to design my structures with clear intention and purpose. This was especially beneficial given that crit sessions happened frequently and were almost always face to face, allowing for real-time feedback on my developing ideas/designs.

PROJECT 1

GEOMETRY & FORM

This project aims to introduce basic understanding of architectural design elements and principles, processes, and approaches in generating ideas, developing design, creating geometric 2D artworks (tattoo stamp) and 3D forms (model), with the title of Expressions through Architecture Design Elements and Principles.

PROJECT 2

STRUCTURE & BODY

Design and construct a 1:1 structure for a specific action, in groups. The structure will be placed in a real dormant green space to activate its use. You will be working with Bamboo and be required to understand the nature and characteristics of the material and demonstrate basic knowledge in construction.

PROJECT 3

SPACE & SENSORY

Re-explore and re-examine the activity and specific action from your 1:1 structure from project 2 and develop a spatial narrative and translate it to an architectural journey with a sequence of 2 to 3 spaces and develop the sensorial experience of your spaces. Develop the sensorial experience of your spaces, guided by
